Educational partnerships and plastic collection programs
We’re proud to partner with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) and its community on its journey toward achieving zero waste on its campuses. This partnership supports HISD schools in their mission to enhance recycling efforts both on campus and within their communities through our Cyclyx all-plastic collection program, currently implemented at 25 locations throughout HISD.
Participating HISD schools collect a wide range of plastic waste material—specifically those school-based plastics that have been deemed challenging to recycle, including plastic film, food packaging, and other materials. In the teachers' lounges, we've seen chip bags and plastic takeout containers, while in the kitchen, our efforts have included items such as film wrap and food containers. This collection program emphasizes training, education, and awareness for both HISD staff and students.
Since the program's launch in April 2023, we have successfully facilitated the collection of diverse post-use plastics, supporting landfill diversion efforts across HISD campuses.
This collaborative effort began as a pilot program aimed at engaging students not only in diverting plastic waste but also in developing a new sustainability curriculum. By educating children early on, we aim to empower them to adopt sustainable behaviors that they can share with their families at home.
Cyclyx is also an active participant in the annual City of Houston Solid Waste Management's Truck Art Contest, open to school-age children from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Together, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future, empowering communities to contribute to effective recycling practices that drive the circular economy.
